The Rhema School of Nursing is registered with the Department of Education and accredited by the South African Nursing Council to train auxiliary nurses. There are three intakes of forty learners each with a total of 120 learners per year.
Our principal and tutors ensure high standards of teaching and training.
We have always had a 100% pass-rate.
We have moved to new, bigger and better premises:
25 Bertrams Road (Cnr Voorhout Str)
New Doornfontein.
The facilities consist of a resource library, two classrooms, a well-equipped simulation room, all the relevant teaching aids, students lounge/dining-room and offices.
We are easily accessible for all types of transportation (public and private), near shops, banks and post office.
Practical training is done at Helen Joseph/ Coronation Complex Hospitals, Tswelopele Frail Care Centre, Cosmos Old Age Home, Floroma Old Age Home, and Roodepoort and Mogale City clinics.
The Hands of Compassion Clinic, in partnership with the Dept of Health, operates five days a week. The disadvantaged living in surrounding areas received primary health care. The Clinic is staffed by the Department of Health. Approximately 500 patients are attended to daily.
In the early days of Hands of Compassion, it was out of sheer desperation that a “clinic” was started. I use the word clinic reservedly because it was nothing more than a room with a first aid kit. But people living in our area were at least 25 kilometers from the nearest government hospital, and our “clinic” was better than nothing. At one stage a doctor, member of our congregation, who had graduated in Germany while in exile, offered his services one morning a week.
With time the facilities have developed and now, in partnership with the Department of Health we have a fully equipped primary health clinic which is staff by qualified nurses and provides all the following free services to the residents of our area:
- Child Health & EPI (Expanded Program on Immunization)
- Minor Ailments and Chronics
- Family Planning
- TB
- STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection)
- Health Promotion
- HIV/Aids Counseling
- PMTC /VCT (Prevention of Maternal to Child Transmission/Voluntary Counseling and Testing)
- ANC
- PNC
As from the 1st April 2011 our Clinic began dispensing ARVs (anti-retrovirals).
It is so rewarding when the needs of the poor are being met by different organizations pulling together to get the job done.
Let each one of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
